“What I’m really interested in is how throughout history the Pacific was and still is an idealized paradise. After World War II many objects meant to symbolize the Pacific weren’t made by people in the Pacific and weren’t even sold in the region they were supposed to represent. Instead the pieces, which feature gender stereotypes, were designed, collected and sold in America and Europe. And even though they have no connection to the Pacific, they’ve become part of the popular culture and openly accepted as true representations of the Pacific. I’m interested in subverting the idea of those collections and how they are formed and presented.”
